Paranormal Hotel Stays in Colorado: Spend the Night at the Steam Train Hotel
By October, with The Cumbres & Toltec winding down, Antonito feels different. Quieter, a little melancholic, and a lot spookier. Around this time, when the leaves start changing color, we also get visitors hunting for paranormal hotel stays in Colorado.
Book your roomAt the Steam Train Hotel, guests have reported voices in empty rooms, footsteps in the dark, shadows on the stairs, and lights switching on whether you want them on or not, which has earned us a reputation as a historic haunted hotel in Colorado.
We’re still a family-run hotel first. Clean rooms, hot coffee, railroad people coming through, but some guests get a scarier experience than others.
Is the Steam Train Hotel Haunted?
We sure think so.
The building has stood since 1911. It's seen railroad workers and travelers pass through for more than a hundred years, and it even had a mortuary as a neighbor, so yes, we're a well-known destination for those looking for haunted hotels in Colorado to stay overnight.
Over the years, guests and staff have reported orbs in the windows, whispers in the halls, the sense that someone's standing just behind you, and some have even seen apparitions in their own room.
Paranormal experiences in Colorado aren't new or unexpected; the state is full of history after all. These just happen to take place where we work… and where you'll be staying.
Room 4
If you're here looking for Haunted places to stay in Colorado specifically, then ask for Room 4. It's cozy, spacious, and a guest woke up to a glowing woman near the ceiling that one time.
She didn't check out and asked for a second night instead. (The guest, we mean, though we suppose the glowing woman never checked out either.)
It's not just her who considers this one of the scariest places to stay in Colorado; our staff seems to think so too. From the microwave turning on on its own to lights switching on and off while they're trying to clean, even a quick visit to this room feels like a spooky roulette.
Can Paranormal Investigators Stay Here?
Sure, come on in. We welcome paranormal investigation groups just like any other, and if ghost hunting hotels in Colorado are the reason you found us, we'll be happy to hear your findings.
If you're visiting Antonito as part of your Colorado haunted hotel vacation, you're in the right valley.
The San Luis Valley has decades of lights, sightings, and terrifying stories. The UFO Watchtower in Hooper is about 45 minutes north of our hotel. If you're here looking for adventure, the enormous dark sky over the valley makes the drive worthwhile even when nothing unexplained happens.
Should I Stay One Night or Two?
One night works, but if you came all this way for one of the most haunted hotels in Colorado, you might as well stay for a little longer and enjoy yourself.
Don't just explore the hotel; Walk Antonito and see Cano’s Castle. Stop by Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, established in 1857 and still a working parish. Then come back after dark.
The San Luis Valley is strange enough without rushing it.
